False Prophets, Yesterday and Today
Bible Text: Ezekiel 13:1-9 and 17-23 | Speaker: Pastor James Zaebst | Ezekiel 13:1-9 and 17-23
Ezekiel 13:1-3: There have always been false prophets. Israel had many false prophets that spoke words not from God but from themselves.
Ezekiel 13:4: They were like a sly fox or a jackal seeking only to satisfy their own appetites, desires and lusts. Many will claim to give God’s word, but they are only interested in material gain (Acts 8:9-21).
Ezekiel 13:5: A legitimate prophet or man of God was to warn Israel of coming judgement and doom. Today a genuine man of God will still warn the lost of coming judgement (Romans 3:23 and 6:23).
Ezekiel 13:6-9: God soundly condemns all false teachers. He condemns men and all women who claim to speak for Him but do not (Ezekiel 13:17).
Today as well as in Biblical times, we still are plagued by many false prophets (II Timothy 3:1 and 13).
Today many tell stories to entertain (II Timothy 4:3 and 4) rather than give out the Gospel that saves (I Corinthians 15:1-4).
Many preach the health and wealth gospel which is not of God and is not a gospel at all (I Timothy 6:5). God’s word firmly says they are accursed (Galatians 1:8 and 9).
Any teacher who is not teaching the finished work of Christ on the cross as the heart and soul of his message is a false prophet (I Corinthians 1:23).
