The Riches and the Glory Revealed to Paul
Bible Text: Colossians 1:25-27 | Speaker: Pastor James Zaebst
Colossians 1:25-26: The Apostle Paul was given a position and a duty by the risen Lord of Glory to record for us a new Dispensation that would bring God’s Word to the Church to its full completion. This Dispensation (revelation) had previously been a Mystery (secret) hidden in the mind of God. Paul was wondorously blessed to be the one to share this Mystery with us (Ephesians 3:8-9).
Colossians 1:27: The riches and the glory of the Mystery (the apex) is that God Himself would indwell Gentiles (as Gentiles) with His Blessed Holy Spirit. The notion the God would ever bless a Gentile as a Gentile was indeed a brand new and radical thought.
In the past God’s plan to bless humanity was always through the Nation of Israel alone (Genesis 12:1-3). Israel was the sole possessor of God’s Word (Romans 3:1-2) and promises (Romans 9:4-5). The formal worship of God was forbidden to Gentiles (Ezekiel 44:9). Christ in the flesh came to Israel alone (Matthew 10:5-7).
Now through Paul God in grace has opened up His worship and extended His blessing the Gentiles. We Gentiles in the past were “lost without Christ of hope” (Ephesians 2:11-12). “But now” we “are made nigh by the blood of Christ” (Ephesians 2:13). Now Christ has nailed the Law that forever separated the Jew and the Gentile to the cross to join us together in one glorious body (Ephesians 2:14-16).
We who were “dogs” unfit to share in God’s blessing to His “children” (Matthew 15:21-28) can now take our cares and lay them at Christ’s feet counting on His blessing (Phillippians 4:6-7).
Paul was indeed wonderfully blessed of God to share God’s ultimate plan of redemption and blessing to the Gentiles. he did not deserve it, but a loving and gracious God gave him this wonderful position as a gift. And what a gift it was to the very one who lead opposition to Christ (I Corinthians 15:8-10)
